Gary Kaplan Appointed President of Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum

SAN FRANCISCO, December 4, 2014: Gary Kaplan, chair of Farella Braun + Martel LLP’s Restructuring & Insolvency Group, has stepped up as president of the Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum. His one-year term began on November 20, 2014.

 

The mission of the Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum is to disseminate information, provide public service and education and promote cooperation and efficiency in the bankruptcy and insolvency fields. Its membership includes accountants, appraisers, attorneys, bankers, bankruptcy judges, business persons, real estate agents, brokers, receivers, workout and turnaround specialists and trustees in the Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Sonoma Counties.

 

Kaplan represents debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, creditors' committees, trustees and receivers in a wide range of bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy matters. His practice includes both out of court and Chapter 11 restructurings and litigation at trial and appellate levels, including the U.S. Supreme Court.

 

Kaplan is Board Certified in Business Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification and a Certified Legal Specialist in Bankruptcy Law by the State Bar of California. He is immediate past chair of the California State Bar Bankruptcy Law Advisory Commission and has served by appointment on the California State Bar Insolvency Law Committee. He was named Corporate LiveWire Lawyer of the Year 2014 in the category Bankruptcy & Restructuring - San Francisco. Kaplan earned his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles (1991).
