Matthew Cate is a business litigator representing large and small companies. Mr. Cate’s experience includes managing claims analysis, investigation, discovery and motion practice in a variety of complex matters, ranging from products liability and financial fraud cases to breach of contract and general commercial litigation.
In addition to serving businesses, Mr. Cate’s practice includes pro bono representation of clients in landlord-tenant disputes. He has previously worked as a volunteer attorney for the Orleans Public Defenders Office in New Orleans.
During law school, Mr. Cate served as an extern for the Hon. Jeremy Fogel and the Hon. Charles R. Breyer, both of the of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, and for the Hon. Carlos T. Bea of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He also interned at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environmental & Natural Resources Division and the California Attorney General’s Natural Resources Section.
Before law school, Mr. Cate was a newspaper reporter, covering the 2008 presidential election from the campaign trail, as well as business issues and all levels of government.
