Richard Robinson Honored with Keta Taylor Colby Award from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 06, 2014 – Richard Robinson, an associate with Farella Braun + Martel LLP, received the Keta Taylor Colby Award from the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. The award was presented at the 27th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Luncheon on Jan. 24 at the Westin San Francis.
The Keta Taylor Colby award recognizes one attorney annually for providing exceptional representation to low-income residents with employment and housing barriers due to criminal history through the Committee’s Second Chance Legal Clinic. The Clinic is held once a month at the West Bay Community Center in San Francisco and focuses on helping clients with expungement, occupational licensing, housing applications, employment and driver’s license suspensions. Robinson’s work with the Second Chance Legal Clinic included developing new legal arguments that helped a young woman expunge her record of two prior criminal convictions so she could pursue an education and eventually a rewarding career.
The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area was founded in 1968 to unite legal professionals in using their expertise to support those in lower-income communities following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The Committee serves as a resource for protecting and promoting the rights of communities of color, immigrants and refugees who may not have access to legal representation.
Robinson is a member of Farella’s Insurance Coverage and Business Litigation practices. He represents policyholders seeking coverage under a variety of insurance policies, including primary and excess general liability policies and professional liability policies. He has assisted clients in pursuing claims related to malpractice, nationwide class actions and intellectual property disputes. With regard to business litigation, Robinson's experience includes handling contractual claims, fraud and bribery and adversary proceedings in bankruptcy. He earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School (2011), his M.A. from Loyola Marymount University and his B.A. from Boston College (2004).
