Victor J. (Jim) Haydel is one of the firm’s leading trial lawyers. He has handled hundreds of cases and has tried more than thirty cases to verdict or judgment.
Mr. Haydel’s trial experience includes cases involving fraud; employment; officer, director and shareholder disputes; insurance coverage and bad faith; partnership dissolutions; and complex business disputes. He was lead counsel for the qui tam plaintiff in Stull v. Bank of America which settled after a nine week trial for $187 million. His lawsuit against Hertz, which settled during trial for $3.5 million, changed the way car rental companies disclose the insurance they sell.
Throughout Mr. Haydel’s career, he has been active in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). He has been involved in numerous mediations and has been selected by the United States District Court for the Northern District of California as an evaluator in the court’s Early Evaluation program and as a mediator for its pilot program on ADR. He has also mediated a number of cases as a neutral.
Mr. Haydel is admitted to the U.S. Court of Military Appeals.
