Biography
Tony Schoenberg is a first-chair trial lawyer and litigator with more than 25 years of experience handling high-stakes business cases. He regularly takes cases to trial or through final merits hearings in arbitration, and he has particular expertise in commercial real estate disputes, wine industry disputes, technology disputes, and solar (and other clean energy) industry disputes.
Tony’s experience includes:
- Led team to a complete defense victory on behalf of prominent wine and beverage company in arbitration arising out of a $28 million asset purchase agreement.
- Led team to a complete defense victory in federal trial on behalf of a smart meter technology company against billion-dollar damage claims asserted by a licensor.
- Successfully represented tax consulting firm to victories in successive arbitrations seeking damages for breaches of tax consulting agreements.
- Litigated a nine-figure LLC dispute, in which the cross-defendant settled for less than 0.8% of claimed damages days before trial.
- Represented a San Francisco real estate developer through a four-week jury trial, involving claims of rescission, breach of contract, and fraud.
- Obtained summary judgment in favor of a natural stone manufacturer against multimillion-dollar business tort and real estate claims.
- Defended owner/developer of championship golf course through summary judgment and appeal, leading to a settlement in which client paid less than 1.5% of a $100 million-plus claim.
- Acted as lead outside litigation counsel for industry-leading solar company, handling claims and disputes on some of the largest solar power plant construction projects in the world.
- Secured client’s complete dismissal from a lawsuit alleging fraud in a $60 million real estate transaction.
- Represented chip maker in an arbitration involving a technology license dispute resulting in a $43 million award for his client.
- Represented a San Francisco high-rise owner in pursuing claims in arbitration against a technology company leading to an eight-figure settlement in favor of the client less than 24 hours before the start of the arbitration hearing.
Distinctions
- 2026 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Award for successfully enjoining federal agencies from illegally terminating research grants awarded to University of California professors.
- 2016 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Award for his court victory representing the City of Sunnyvale in its successful opposition to a Second Amendment challenge.
