Firm

Diversity, Equality + Inclusion Committee

Throughout our over 60-year history, Farella has been committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion at our firm and in our communities. This commitment is shared among everyone who works at our firm – from legal professionals to associates and partners. Farellans are not all the same. We are not all from the same backgrounds, nor have we all had the same upbringing or experiences. Instead, we are stronger because we have diverse backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. Those differences are coupled with our shared values of excellence and a powerful work ethic to tenaciously represent our clients. Thus, we are able to view our clients’ most pressing problems from a multitude of perspectives and come up with innovative solutions.

Over 20 years ago, we created our Diversity Scholarship Program to assist Bay Area students in their first year of law school who share our commitment to defray some part of their legal education expenses. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, employment, and community service, indicating strong potential to be a future leader in taking actions towards making the legal profession more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We have awarded $635,000 in scholarships to 92 first-year law students in the Bay Area. In 2024, we will award a total of $45,000 in scholarship grants to be divided equally among three first-year law student recipients.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be current first-year, full-time law students (attending first-year classes) in good standing, pursuing a J.D. at one of the following law schools: University of California, Berkeley School of Law; University of California Davis School of Law (King Hall); UC College of the Law, San Francisco; Santa Clara University School of Law; Stanford Law School; or University of San Francisco School of Law.
  • Applicants must be students whose academic achievement, employment, and community service indicate strong potential to be a future leader in taking actions toward making the legal profession more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on a combination of merit and financial need. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a commitment to working and living in the Bay Area.

The application period for Farella’s 2024 Diversity Scholarship Program is open and closes on March 6, 2024. If you are interested in applying, please complete the application form and send it to [email protected] by March 6, 2024.

As part of the application process, we invite all potential applicants to attend our 2024 Diversity Scholarship Program Mixer on February 15 at Farella’s San Francisco office, where applicants can learn more about the scholarship program and meet Farella lawyers.
