Patrick R. McKinney is special counsel in Farella Braun + Martel's Insurance Coverage and Construction Counseling & Dispute Resolution Groups.
Mr. McKinney's insurance coverage practice includes representation of policyholders seeking insurance coverage under many types of insurance policies, including primary and excess general liability policies, professional liability policies, and life insurance policies. He has represented insureds through mediations, arbitrations, trial and appeals involving the interpretation of policy language under California law.
Mr. McKinney's construction law practice includes the representation of owners, contractors, and design professionals in a wide variety of construction matters including differing site conditions, delay, deficient construction work, and design errors and omissions. Mr. McKinney has also consulted with owners and contractors concerning ongoing construction projects to assist with the avoidance of claims and claims management. He has lectured on the subject of mechanic's liens, and contributed to a chapter in Construction Damages and Remedies (ABA, 2003).
Mr. McKinney serves as a volunteer Judge for the Donald P. McCullum Youth Court, a youth centered peer court for first time juvenile offenders in Alameda County. During law school, Mr. McKinney taught legal writing and research to first year law students and served as an extern in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office through Hastings’ Criminal Practice Clinic, arguing felony preliminary examinations and motions.
