Steve Lowenthal currently serves as the Chairman of Farella Braun + Martel.
Mr. Lowenthal has developed a broad based trial and litigation practice over more than 23 years at Farella Braun + Martel. He represents business, non-profit and institutional entities in all forms of dispute resolution throughout the state and country including a variety of complex commercial matters, such as: class actions involving unfair competition claims under California Business and Professions Code Section 17200 and corporate, breach of contract and technology related issues. Mr. Lowenthal regularly represents individuals and entities in matters involving fiduciary duty issues, shareholder class actions and derivative litigation, and handles franchise and distributor related claims, antitrust, trade secret and licensing issues. Mr. Lowenthal also has an active real estate litigation practice, representing entities and individuals as investors, developers, lessors and lessees.
In addition to a deep understanding of alternative dispute resolution venues, Mr. Lowenthal tries cases where appropriate to protect his client's interest. One recent trial success involved representing a corporate client that was awarded a judgment valued in the tens of millions of dollars plus an attorneys' fees award that included every dollar of attorneys' fees requested in the case.
Mr. Lowenthal regularly teaches trial advocacy at the Stanford University Law School Advocacy Skills Workshop and has also taught trial advocacy at the University of San Francisco Law School. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers and has been active in numerous other bar and community organizations.
Mr. Lowenthal previously served as Chairman of the firm's Litigation Department and was a member of the firm's Executive Committee and Strategic Advisory Board for many years. He is admitted to practice in California and in the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, U.S. District Courts, Northern and Central Districts of California, and the Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C.
