Jon L. Benjamin, Partner

Jon L. Benjamin is a partner in Farella Braun + Martel's Environmental Law Department.  Mr. Benjamin's compliance counseling practice focuses on the areas of environmental and health and safety law. 

Mr. Benjamin's practice includes significant experience in regulatory counseling regarding federal, state and local requirements, including permitting and both civil and criminal enforcement matters at each level of government, as well as due diligence and counseling support for complex real estate and corporate transactions, including bankruptcy/workout situations.  Substantively, his areas of experience include CERCLA, RCRA and Clean Water Act hazardous, solid and aqueous waste issues, real property site investigations and remediation (including PRP group and agency regulatory matters, cost recovery and allocation issues arising at private and Superfund or equivalent sites, and the redevelopment of contaminated sites, including complex brownfields transactions), environmental insurance products, issues and negotiation of policy language, land use, environmental review under NEPA and CEQA, risk assessments, California's Proposition 65 and related issues, strategic environmental planning, federal and state-OSHA programs compliance (including Cal-OSHA), enforcement and accident investigations, and corporate health and safety strategies.  Mr. Benjamin has represented numerous clients in the energy sector, including waste-to-energy and the emerging clean tech field. 

Prior to joining Farella, Mr. Benjamin was a partner at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, LLP in San Francisco, where he practiced environmental and health and safety law.  He was a program analyst in the Office of the Secretary of the federal Department of Health & Human Services from 1979 through 1981.  Mr. Benjamin was a public affairs fellow with the Coro Foundation in San Francisco.
