Daniel E. Cohn, Partner

Daniel E. Cohn, who joined the firm in 1985, maintains a diverse practice in corporate, wine, employment, franchise and intellectual property law. Mr. Cohn became a partner of the firm in 1991 and is the chair of its Commercial Business Department. Mr. Cohn is a founder of the firm's Private Client Group. For many years he has been honored as a Northern California "Super Lawyer."

Mr. Cohn has acted as regular corporate counsel for several of the firm's business clients, including The Chalone Wine Group, Ltd., Oakland Athletics Baseball Company, Golden State Vintners, Inc., Round Table Franchise Corporation, Stone & Youngberg, Super Store Industries, and Swig Investment Company. He has recently completed a sale of control transaction for a natural foods company and the sale of the Metreon for Sony Corporation of America. He has a depth of experience in family business succession matters and substantial experience with both structuring closely held corporations and negotiating and documenting shareholder buyouts in closely held corporations. Mr. Cohn is a member of both Attorneys for Family Held Enterprises and the Family Firm Institute (FFI). In September 2009, he was awarded a FFI Certificate in Family Business Advising.

Mr. Cohn is a founder of Farella Braun + Martel's Wine Country Office, located in St. Helena, California. In the wine industry, he has an active mergers and acquisitions practice. He has completed numerous grape purchase contracts, vineyard leases and other transactions. He has negotiated executive employment agreements on behalf of Franciscan, Chalone, Mondavi and Golden State Vintners. He also regularly represents entrepreneurs in the Wine Country.
