Sandra Edwards is the chair of Farella’s Environmental Law Department. Ms. Edwards has extensive trial experience in federal and state court, and is a former Assistant District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco. She litigates and has tried a wide variety of complex civil matters, with an emphasis on pharmaceutical product liability, toxic torts, and environmental litigation.

Ms. Edwards strategically and successfully defends her corporate clients in MDL, individual, and class action lawsuits for a broad range of products, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and agricultural chemicals. She has significant experience in high-stakes environmental lawsuits involving toxic torts, groundwater and contaminated sites, the Clean Water Act, FIFRA, and Proposition 65, as well as private attorney general actions and citizen suits. Ms. Edwards’ numerous federal and state court trials more recently include:

  • A four-week pharmaceutical liability federal district court jury trial in which the Hon. J. Rakoff (S.D.N.Y.) returned a directed verdict for her client, followed by a jury verdict for the defense as well. Hill v. Novartis Pharm. Corp. (E.D. Cal.).
  • A three-week jury trial in San Francisco Superior Court of a complex real estate/construction lawsuit, with a verdict finding fraud, negligence, and breach of fiduciary duty on behalf of her client, along with a finding of a statutory violations giving rise to attorneys’ fees.
  • Successful representation of an international pesticide manufacturer in numerous coordinated product liability lawsuits alleging crop damage resulting from use of an EPA-regulated plant growth regulator.

She is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Product Liability Litigation-Defense (2018-2019), and is named among the Northern California Super Lawyers (2014–2018). She is a sustaining member of the exclusive Product Liability Advisory Council. Ms. Edwards serves on the board of directors of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and acted as its general counsel for eight years. She is the co-chair of the Environmental Litigation Committee’s Subcommittee of Women Environmental Lawyers for the ABA (Section of Litigation). Ms. Edwards served two terms on Farella’s five-person Advisory Board, which provides long-term strategic direction for the firm.
