May 21, 2021 Announcement

Farella Braun + Martel is proud to announce that Partner Douglas R. Young was honored with the prestigious Judge Learned Hand Award by the American Jewish Committee of San Francisco at a virtual ceremony held on May 20.

AJC is the leading global Jewish advocacy organization that works to advance democratic values around the world by promoting pluralism, tolerance, and civil rights. AJC established the Judge Learned Hand Award in memory of the legendary Judge Billings Learned Hand, a senior judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1924 to 1951. The award is given each year to distinguished individuals in the legal profession who embody the principles of justice, freedom, and fairness for which Judge Hand was renowned.

Considered a dean of the defense bar, clients hire Doug to handle sensitive cases with complicated facts. He is a courtroom veteran who has tried over 35 cases to verdict and has argued over 45 appellate matters. His diverse litigation experience includes internal investigations; international antitrust or FCPA claims; intellectual property; securities; white-collar criminal defense; and parallel civil, criminal, and regulatory proceedings. He often serves as a court-appointed special master in complex matters, has successfully taken on three death penalty cases by court appointment, and served for 12 years on the Criminal Justice Act Defense Panel for the Northern District of California. Doug is a former president of the Bar Association of San Francisco, the McFetridge American Inn of Court, and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (Northern California Chapter). He is chair of the Advisory Board of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is the past president and a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is a fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and other invitation-only trial and appellate organizations.
