Biography

Fernando Esponda is a senior paralegal at Farella Braun + Martel with a practice emphasis on intellectual property litigation. He works on all phases of a case, with specific knowledge in patent review, patent file history search and review, claims construction analysis, and all aspects of trial preparation for intellectual and business litigation.

Fernando is the lead paralegal on large complex cases and is an integral member of litigation teams working at all stages of litigation, from discovery through jury or bench verdicts and arbitration hearings. He has experience with many federal and state courts, and his cases have involved a wide range of technologies, including digital audio, motion picture soundtrack, silicon wafer drying and cellular telephone technologies, and biotechnology.

He was an integral member of the Farella team that tried a month-long patent case and worked on a patent infringement dispute where the firm obtained an order granting summary judgment on behalf of Dolby Laboratories against Lucent Technologies. He assisted on a trade secret misappropriation case that obtained an award of over $43 million on behalf of Atmel Corporation against LM Ericsson Telefon AB.

In 2018, Fernando was a member of a successful trial team that secured a multimillion dollar verdict for its client following a six- week trade secrets trial in the Northern District of California related to data center technology.

Fernando assists with internal department training and supervises other paralegals and case clerks. He has spoken on the topics of deposition preparation and summary judgment filings.
