Biography

Jeremy Lawrence represents clients in insurance coverage disputes, bad faith claims, and disputes involving indemnity contracts. He draws on his extensive policyholder-focused experience in pursuing claims involving the full range of first- and third-party insurance policies, including general liability, D&O, professional liability/E&O, property and business interruption, commercial crime, and representation and warranty policies. He has litigated and advised clients in a wide range of industries, including construction, energy, finance, media and entertainment, legal, retail, technology, telecommunications, and transportation.

Jeremy is also experienced in litigating matters involving construction, real property, and corporate governance disputes.

Among his career highlights include persuading two different D&O carriers to withdraw coverage denials in connection with a SPAC-related securities litigation, representing a material supplier in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to overturn an erroneous trial court decision and secure a duty to defend against a nine-figure claim involving alleged defects at an offshore energy-production facility, serving as lead counsel for a renewable-energy client in the California Court of Appeal and obtaining a decision forcing the plaintiff in a putative class action to arbitrate its claims on an individual basis, and securing numerous eight-figure settlements from insurers in first-party claims.

Jeremy is an adjunct professor in insurance law at UC Law San Francisco and has been an associate editor of the ABA Tort, Trial & Insurance Practice Law Journal for nearly a decade. His pro bono practice has included co-authoring U.S. Supreme Court amicus curiae briefs on behalf of public interest organizations and representing an individual to help secure access to disputed life insurance benefits.

Jeremy served as a law clerk to the Honorable Milan D. Smith, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and to the Honorable Stephen V. Wilson of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
