Farella Braun + Martel Celebrates 50 Years and Counting

February 1, 2012 Announcement

SAN FRANCISCO, February 1, 2012 – Farella Braun + Martel LLP (www.fbm.com) proudly celebrates its 50th Anniversary today.

“As we celebrate our 50-year anniversary, it’s a good time to reflect on how far we’ve come and how we’ve benefitted by the communities in which we live and work. We feel very fortunate,” said firm chairman Steve Lowenthal.

In appreciation of the support of its clients and the broader community, Farella has dedicated its 50th Anniversary celebration to community service. The firm today announces the Farella Braun + Martel 50th Anniversary Gifts, $500,000 in direct gifts to community-based organizations, and its 50 Hour Challenge, which challenges all firm attorneys, managers and staff to volunteer at least 50 hours of service to community organizations of their choice in 2012.

“In today’s competitive market and in a challenging economy, we are proud to celebrate 50 years,” added Lowenthal. “We are marking this anniversary with appreciation and gratitude, focusing our energies on giving back to our community with donations and volunteerism.”

The Farella Braun + Martel 50th Anniversary Gifts—$500,000 in direct gifts to community-based organizations, include:

  • The San Francisco and Marin Food Bank has been at the forefront in delivering food to needy individuals and families for 25 years. The anniversary gift will allow the Food Bank to purchase new hybrid-fuel delivery trucks and to fund several food pantries that provide a weekly farmers’ market allowing clients to select the foods that best meet their families’ needs, including fresh fruits and vegetables that come direct from growers in California’s Central Valley.
  • ConnectEd: The California Center for College and Career will introduce a new Farella Braun + Martel Law and Justice Credit Recovery Curriculum at Thurgood Marshall High School in San Francisco’s Bay View/Hunters Point community. This ground-breaking and innovative curriculum will infuse law-related themes into the school’s credit-recovery program, helping a diverse student population get back on track to graduation and exposing them to the wide array of career options in law and justice fields.

The 50 Hour Challenge calls on all attorneys, managers and staff to volunteer 50 hours of service to community organizations of their choice. To support and facilitate this initiative, the firm is offering a Special Volunteer Time-Off Program for staff and a Special Billable Hours Credit for attorneys and paralegals. The effort will run until the end of 2012.

Farella is a San Francisco-based law firm representing clients throughout the United States and abroad in sophisticated business transactions and complex commercial, civil and criminal litigation. In 1962, the founders set out to create a firm based on a set of core values including excellence, client service, dedication, creativity, community service and trust. Throughout the last 50 years, Farella has remained true to these values, while growing the firm from three lawyers in 1962 to more than 135 lawyers today.
