Farella Braun + Martel Named Education Partner of the Year by San Francisco Business Times

SAN FRANCISCO (July 23, 2015): Farella Braun + Martel LLP is proud to be named the San Francisco Business Times’ 2015 Corporate Philanthropy Education Partner of the Year. The award honors Farella for the accomplishments of its long-standing programs targeting diverse Bay Area students.

Farella’s founding partners led by example and today the firm leadership continues to define a culture of philanthropy and giving back to the community by actively taking part in firm community programs and pro bono matters. The San Francisco Business Times recognized Farella for its educational programs whose objectives include giving back to the community and developing the pipeline of diverse and underrepresented groups entering the legal profession.

Diversity Pipeline Internship Program

Farella’s Pipeline Internship Program is our groundbreaking educational program targeting diverse or disadvantaged high school students in the Bay Area with the objectives of exposing them to the possibilities of a legal career and supporting them in the steps to get there. Since its launch in 2007, the program has provided 40 high school students with a unique opportunity to learn about the legal profession through the hands-on six-week paid summer internship program.

Diversity 1L Scholarship Program

Now in its 15th year, the scholarship program was created to assist diverse Bay Area law students pursue their legal careers. To-date the firm has awarded $320,000 in scholarships to 65 local first-year law students. The scholarships make a difference. (Read inspiring testimonials.) All of the recipients have gone on to graduate from law school and two of them are now practicing attorneys at Farella.

Law & Justice Credit Recovery Program

Through a Farella 50th Anniversary Gift the firm in connection with The California Center for College and Career (ConnectEd) created and launched the Farella Braun + Martel Law & Justice Credit Recovery Program at Thurgood Marshall High School in San Francisco’s Hunters Point district in 2012. The groundbreaking and innovative curriculum infuses law-related content, projects, and activities into the school’s credit recovery program, helping a diverse student population get back on track to graduation while exposing them to the wide array of career options in the law and justice fields.

The firm was honored today at the San Francisco Business Times 2015 Corporate Philanthropy Awards event at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco.
