Farella’s Doug Dexter Elected Chair of the ABA’s Labor and Employment Law Section

August 9, 2022 Announcement

Northern California legal powerhouse Farella Braun + Martel is proud to announce that Partner Doug Dexter has been elected chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Labor and Employment Law Section.

“With a diverse range of members and perspectives from across the nation, the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section has created an intrastate, multijurisdictional community of lawyers that emphasizes building relationships and tackling employment law developments in the broader context,” said Doug. “As we continue to drive engagement and participation, the section is committed to increasing inclusivity and developing leaders from underrepresented groups. I look forward to continuing this journey as the section’s chair.”

The ABA’s Labor and Employment Law Section represents all perspectives – management, union, plaintiff, neutral, and public – on labor and employment law. With more than 22,000 members, the section facilitates a balanced discussion of employment issues via its many standing committees, all dedicated to emerging legal issues and serving as a major force behind developments in labor and employment law. The group’s signature event, the 16th Annual Labor & Employment Law Conference, will take place in Washington, D.C. from Nov. 9–12 and features a prominent panel addressing employment considerations in the wake of the SCOTUS Dobbs ruling.

Doug assumes the role of chair following two years as vice chair and one year as chair elect. He has been a member of the ABA’s Labor and Employment Law Section for more than 30 years and has held numerous other leadership positions, including budget co-chair (2017-2019), governing council member (2011-2017), co-chair of the Annual CLE Conference Committee (2009), and co-chair of the Technology in the Practice and Workplace Committee (2005-2007).

In his practice, Doug specializes in advising and representing large employers, particularly in the technology industry. He is a fellow in the American College of Labor & Employment Lawyers and a former president of the Northern California Human Resources Association. Additionally, Doug served more than 15 years as chair of Farella's Employment Law Practice. He has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America for Litigation-Labor and Employment and Employment-Management (2018-2022) and ranked a Labor & Employment Star in Benchmark Litigation (2019-2022).
