Julie Treppa Elected Fellow of American College of Tax Counsel

June 7, 2022 Announcement

Northern California legal powerhouse Farella Braun + Martel is proud to announce that Partner Julie Treppa has been elected a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel (ACTC), the preeminent professional association of tax attorneys. Julie was one of 14 new fellows elected to the ACTC at its annual meeting on May 13. Fellows are recognized for their extraordinary accomplishments and professional achievements and for their dedication to improving the practice of tax law.

Julie has expertise in a broad range of tax-related issues and controversies involving federal, state and other taxing authorities. She advises clients on transaction planning, fund formation, equity incentive programs, and deferred compensation matters under Code Section 409A. She is particularly experienced in developing strategies to help investors, developers, businesses, and non-profit organizations use tax incentives and tax credits, such as New Markets Tax Credits and Opportunity Zones, to achieve financial goals while supporting social, environmental, and other community-based priorities. Julie is a member of the New Markets Tax Credit Working Group, an organization that provides a platform for industry participants to work together to resolve technical regulatory and administrative issues with the New Markets Tax Assistance Program. At Farella, she serves as chair of the firm's Commercial Department. Julie is recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the Tax Law and Nonprofit/Charity Law practice areas (2018-2022). She earned her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law and a masters in taxation from Golden Gate University School of Tax.

Formed in 1981, membership in the American College of Tax Counsel is limited to a maximum of 700 tax attorneys across the United States. Fellows must be nominated for membership and undergo a rigorous screening process prior to being elected as ACTC Fellows. ACTC's purpose is to foster excellence and to elevate professional standards in the practice of tax law; stimulate skills development and knowledge through participation in continuing legal education programs and seminars; provide for input by the tax bar into the development of tax laws; and facilitate the scholarly discussion and examination of tax policy issues.
