November 15, 2005 Announcement

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 15, 2005):  Farella Braun + Martel LLP announces today that prominent Napa Valley estates and family wealth attorney Kate Ohlandt has joined the firm’s St. Helena office as a partner in the firm’s Tax and Family Wealth practice.

“We are thrilled to welcome an attorney of Kate’s caliber to the firm,” said Fred Caspersen, St. Helena-based chair of Farella Braun + Martel’s Tax and Family Wealth practice.  “Her extensive experience handling a wide range of tax and family wealth issues complements the needs of our clients in the Wine Country, and throughout the Bay Area.”

Ms. Ohlandt’s practice focuses on complex trust and estate matters, including the development and implementation of wealth-transfer strategies and business-succession plans.  She has a depth of experience counseling clients on estate planning as well as wills and trusts, and is a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law.  Ms. Ohlandt has particular expertise handling retirement benefits planning.  She is also trained as a mediator on trust and estate matters.

“Our clients in the Wine Country face unique issues related to managing and protecting their wealth and assets, and Kate’s understanding of those issues make her an ideal addition to our St. Helena office,” said Steve Lowenthal, chair of Farella Braun + Martel.  “Her depth of experience handling trust and estate matters will further strengthen the capabilities of the firm’s thriving Tax and Family Wealth practice.”

“Farella Braun + Martel has an exceptional reputation in the Wine Country,” said Ms. Ohlandt.  “I am excited to join the firm’s St. Helena office and become an integral member of the firm’s Tax and Family Wealth practice.”

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Ohlandt was a partner in the Trusts and Estates Department at Napa Valley law firm Dickenson, Peatman & Fogarty for 13 years.

Ms. Ohlandt received her J.D. with honors from The University of Texas at Austin in 1990 and her B.A. with distinction from Stanford University in 1973.  She is a member of the State Bar of California and the Napa County Bar Association.
