Biography
Wendy Hernandez is a corporate and tax associate in Farella Braun + Martel’s Exempt Organizations Group.
Wendy is a social-impact lawyer who enjoys helping charities and cause-driven businesses navigate corporate and tax laws to ensure they can maximize their social impacts. Her clients primarily include nonprofit organizations that seek her guidance to navigate corporate and tax laws at the state and federal level. Wendy also enjoys helping cannabis companies navigate complex tax issues that may hinder their business objectives.
Wendy’s experience with nonprofit clients includes advising at various stages of a client's lifecycle, including entity formation, corporate governance, acquiring state and federal tax exemption, compliance with the California Registry of Charitable Trusts, due diligence in grantmaking, property welfare exemption, corporate restructuring, and dissolution. Her experience with cannabis companies includes providing counsel for tax compliance and helping clients enter into favorable settlement agreements with the Internal Revenue Service, California Franchise Tax Board, and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.
Wendy was a judicial extern for the Honorable Fernando M. Olguin of the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California.
Wendy enjoys writing competitively and publishing thought scholarship in renown academic journals. She published twice while at Hastings and twice while at Berkeley, winning a 1st place writing award while at each institution.
