Farella Braun + Martel Advises The Doctors Company on Its Expansion into New York’s Medical Malpractice Insurance Market

November 30, 2018 Announcement

SAN FRANCISCO (Nov. 30, 2018): The Doctors Company, the nation’s largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurer, executed an agreement to purchase New York-based Hospitals Insurance Company and FOJP Service Corporation from Mount Sinai Health System, Montefiore Health System, and Maimonides Medical Center. The $650,000,000 acquisition, which must still be approved by state insurance regulators, is expected to close in 2019. Farella Braun + Martel LLP is advising The Doctors Company on the transaction.

The deal allows The Doctors Company to grow its presence in the New York market and add the three large New York City hospitals to its client roster. According to The Doctors Company, the sale presents an important opportunity to financially strengthen these three hospital systems.

The Farella team is led by business transactions partner Philip W. Peters and includes business transactions partner Jesse Debban and associates Carolina de Armas and Drew N. Goodwin, and tax partner Said C. Kordestani and associate Lysondra E. Ludwig.
