Farella Braun + Martel Awards 2017 Diversity Scholarships

SAN FRANCISCO, June 15, 2017 – Farella Braun + Martel LLP is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2017 Diversity Scholarships. Farella has awarded a total of $30,000 in scholarship grants to three Bay Area first-year law students. Dell Inc.’s Legal Department collaborated with Farella’s Diversity Scholarship Program Committee to award the scholarships and provided the students with new Dell XPS 13 laptops.

 

The scholarship program is open to 1L Bay Area law students of underrepresented groups whose background or personal experience would contribute to the diversity of the legal profession. Scholarship recipients are chosen based upon a combination of merit and financial need. To date, the firm has awarded $380,000 in scholarships to 71 local first-year law students.

 

“Congratulations to this year’s inspiring recipients, each of whom impressed our selection committee with their outstanding academic accomplishments and dedication to the community,” said Erica Villanueva, Farella insurance recovery partner and co-chair the firm’s Diversity + Inclusion Committee. “We were pleased to have members of Dell’s Legal Department take part in the program again this year. Our firms share a commitment to increasing diversity and supporting outstanding diverse students on their way to becoming lawyers.”

This year’s scholarship recipients:

 

Jenny Chhea attends the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. While at law school, Jenny works as a case manager for the International Refugee Assistance Project. Prior to law school, Jenny graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, summa cum laude, with a B.A. in history. This summer, Jenny will work as a legal intern in the Office of the Co-Prosecutors for the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials.

 

Chelsea Davis also attends the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where she is the articles editor of the Berkeley Journal of African American Law & Policy. Prior to starting law school, she worked as a senate fellow in the California State Senate. Chelsea graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, cum laude, with a B.A. in political science and African-American studies. She will join the California Office of the Attorney General-Employment and Administrative Mandate Section this summer as a law clerk.

 

Priyank Patel attends the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. While working toward his J.D., he is a member of the Intellectual Property Club, Moot Court, and is a research assistant to UC Berkeley Law Professor David Oppenheimer. Priyank graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, as a regents scholar with a B.S. in psychobiology. Priyank will be at Salesforce this summer as a legal associate.
