Farella Braun + Martel Honored with ALA IDEA Award

May 22, 2014 Announcement

SAN FRANCISCO, May 22, 2014: Farella Braun + Martel LLP is proud to announce that it is a recipient of an inaugural Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) IDEA Award honoring unique and innovative programs, services and events that improve ALA chapters and/or legal communities.

Farella received an IDEA Award for its community-based programs targeting diverse high school students: the Diversity Pipeline Internship Program and the Farella Braun + Martel Law & Justice Credit Recovery Program.

  • Farella’s Diversity Pipeline Internship Program provides high school students from diverse and/or disadvantaged backgrounds with a unique opportunity to learn about the legal profession. Through the hands-on six-week summer internship program, the interns develop practical skills and strategies to assist their pursuit of higher education and develop the confidence to consider, and think themselves capable of, going to law school and becoming a member of the legal community.

  • The firm recognized the challenge public schools often face in supporting students who have not succeeded in traditional classes. Through a 50th Anniversary gift in 2012, Farella, in connection with ConnectEd: The California Center for College and Career, created and launched the Farella Braun + Martel Law & Justice Credit Recovery Program at Thurgood Marshall High School in the Hunters Point district of San Francisco. The ground-breaking and innovative curriculum infuses law-related content, projects, and activities into the school’s credit recovery program, helping a diverse student population get back on track to graduation and exposing them to the wide array of career options in the law and justice fields.

IDEA Award entries were judged on innovation, impact and results, creativity and originality, success of project, significance and long-term impact. Farella was one of five recipients, and the only law firm, honored at the 2014 IDEA Awards Ceremony held on May 20 at the ALA Annual Conference in Toronto, Canada.
