Farella Braun + Martel LLP Advises The Doctors Company in its $362 Million Acquisition of FPIC Insurance

Farella Braun + Martel guided Napa-based The Doctors Company, the country's largest insurer of physician and surgeon medical professional liability, in its $362 million purchase of FPIC Insurance Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: FPIC), announced on May 24, 2011. Business Partner Philip Peters served as lead counsel on the overall transaction while Tax Partner Said Kordestani took the lead on tax issues. Business Partner Jonathan Lemberg and Business Associates Jesse Debban and Nilima Patel also played valuable roles.

Subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals, The Doctors Company will acquire FPIC, a leading Florida-based provider of medical professional liability for physicians, dentists, and other healthcare providers, for $42.00 per share in cash. This deal further enhances The Doctors Company's position as the nation's leading insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability with more than 70,000 members.
