Farella Braun + Martel’s James Bruen Inducted as President of the American College of Environmental Lawyers
SAN FRANCISCO, October 28, 2016: Farella Braun + Martel Partner James A. Bruen was inducted as President of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) at the College’s October 2016 Annual Meeting in New Orleans. Bruen has been a Fellow with the ACOEL since 2008, as part of its inaugural class.
The ACOEL is a professional association of lawyers dedicated to maintaining and improving the ethical practice of environmental law, the administration of justice and the development of environmental law at the state and federal levels. Membership is by invitation and members are recognized by their peers as preeminent in their field.
As President, Bruen will focus on the strategic evolution of the College—now in its ninth year—and its membership, including the development of future leaders. He will lead the College’s Executive Committee and remain involved in the leadership of the College’s international pro bono program.
Bruen has over 40 years of criminal and civil litigation and business counseling experience representing industry, universities and governmental institutions in complex domestic and international products and environmental counseling and litigation. He is also a highly regarded expert in product stewardship with wide-ranging experience in product design, manufacturing, distribution and stewardship issues, as well as plant sitings and closures, raw material sourcing, EHS management systems, codes of conduct, effluent guidelines and other sustainable development issues.
Bruen is listed as one of the top (Band 1) environmental lawyers in California by Chambers USA. He is recognized in Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Environmental Law, Environmental Litigation and Mass Tort Litigation and in 2014 was named its “Lawyer of the Year” in San Francisco for the Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions – Defendants practice area.
