Farella Braun + Martel Awards 2015 Diversity Scholarships

SAN FRANCISCO, June 5, 2015 – Farella Braun + Martel LLP announces the recipients of its 2015 Diversity Scholarships. Farella is awarding a total of $30,000 in scholarship grants to three Bay Area first-year law students. Dell Inc.’s Legal Department collaborated with Farella’s Diversity Scholarship Program Committee to award the scholarships and is providing the students with Dell tablets.

The 2015 recipients of the Farella Braun + Martel Diversity Scholarships are:

Martha Camarillo Freston attends the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where she is solicitations editor for the Berkeley Journal of Gender, Law & Justice, a Phoenix Fellow of the Berkeley Law Foundation and a member of La Raza Law Students Association and Christians at Boalt. She earned a B.A., magna cum laude, in psychology from Weber State University, where she earned the Excellence in Service honor, was president of the Nous Philosophy Club and received the Crystal Crest “Woman of the Year” Award for leadership, scholarship and personal integrity. This summer Freston will intern with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

Hector Emilio Corea attends the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where he is a member of La Raza Law Journal and La Raza Law Students Association and earned a Boalt Hall Fellowship. He serves as a volunteer and interpreter at the East Bay Dreamer Clinic. Corea received a B.A., magna cum laude, in philosophy and political science from Wichita State University, where he received the Presidential Scholarship Award and the Craig Macy Endowed Scholarship in Philosophy. He serves in the U.S. Army Reserve as a sergeant and public affairs specialist and has earned numerous honors.

Amanda Sharon Depuy attends the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she serves as historian and secretary of the Black Law Students Association and will serve as its president in the 2015-2016 school year. She recently was the first place winner in the Black History Month Knowledge Bowl. She earned a B.S., with honors, in political science from Middle Tennessee State University. During her undergrad studies, she volunteered as a big sister with Big Brother Big Sister. This summer Depuy will be a legal intern with the San Jose Sharks.

Our firms share a commitment to increasing diversity and supporting outstanding diverse students on their way to becoming lawyers.”

Now in its 15th year, the scholarship program was created to assist diverse Bay Area law students pursue their legal careers. Diversity Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic accomplishments, background, activities, obligations, commitment to serving the community and financial need. To date, the firm has awarded $320,000 in scholarships to 65 local first-year law students.
