2004 Rankings Highlight the Firm’s Strength in Construction, Environmental, Insurance and Litigation

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 12, 2004):  Farella Braun + Martel LLP received top rankings in the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.   The firm was recognized as one of the leading law firms in California in the areas of construction, environmental, insurance and commercial litigation.

The firm’s Construction practice ranked No. 2 in California. The group received a strong endorsement as “one of the finest of the state’s shops.” The group was commended on its expertise in litigation and mediation. Farella attorneys recognized as leaders in this field were Alan Harris, Charles Sink, and Deborah Ballati. 

Farella Braun + Martel’s Environmental practice ranked No. 4 in California and weighed in as a “noteworthy player.”   Farella attorneys recognized as leaders in this field were James Bruen and Deborah Schmall.     

The Insurance practice ranked No. 3 in California and was noted as a “high-profile name in the field of insurance coverage” and as “tremendously successful” in its representation of policyholders.  Recognized as a leader in this field was Farella attorney William Friedrich.

The Commercial Litigation practice ranked No. 3 and was recognized for its “outstanding attorneys.”  Commentators noted the group’s strength in class actions.  Doug Young was recognized as one of the top litigators in California.

Chambers USA ranks both law firms and attorneys.  For the U.S. directory, over 7,000 in-depth interviews were conducted with clients and private-practice attorneys.  Law firms and individual attorneys are ranked on a scale of 1 - 6.  Qualities on which the rankings are assessed include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness/astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client.
