Farella Braun + Martel IP Litigator James Morando discussed how providing relevant analogies can help jurors appreciate the challenges of an invention.  He said, "The technology in a patent case can be so complicated, and if you develop an analogy that works, it brings the technology down to a level that is more easily understood."  When Morando represented Volterra Semiconductor Corp. in its suit alleging Infineon Technologies AG infringed its patents for a voltage regulator, three of the jurors who ended up on the panel had ties to the trucking industry. Morando used this to his advantage in helping the co-inventor prepare his testimony to show why the patents were valid.
