Farella Affirms Commitment to Downtown San Francisco With Office Move

May 9, 2023 Announcement

10+-Year, Nearly 40K-Square-Foot Lease in Financial District, One Block from Previous Home

Northern California legal powerhouse Farella Braun + Martel is pleased to announce a relocation of its San Francisco office to One Bush Plaza, located on Bush Street and Battery Street in the heart of downtown San Francisco’s Financial District and one block away from the firm’s previous location on Montgomery Street. The move is effective April 10.

“The San Francisco Bay Area has always been at the forefront of progress and change. This spirit of innovation and embrace of the future is core to us as a firm,” said Farella Managing Partner Brian Donnelly. “With One Bush Street, it was exciting to re-envision our ideal workspace environment to bring together our professionals in a naturally more collaborative space with innovative technology to facilitate our truly hybrid work model.”

Farella’s space at One Bush is 39,935 square feet spread across the entirety of the 9th and 10th floors of the building and part of the 6th floor. The firm entered into a 10+-year lease, working with Cushman & Wakefield and One Bush’s in-house team at Tishman Speyer. Farella invested significant resources in technology adaptation and personnel training to ensure seamless collaboration for client teams. The firm’s space at One Bush pushes boundaries in tech adoption and features innovations such as 100% office hoteling through an app and digital door name plates that change based on attendance.

“My real estate practice involves helping clients secure spaces that help their employees and businesses thrive. Here, I was tapped to play the same role for the firm and am confident with One Bush that we have landed at a truly dynamic space that meets our needs and fulfills our vision,” said Farella Real Estate Partner Tony Ratner. “We are pleased to be in a landmark, light-filled building that speaks to our Northern California roots and that, as a LEED Platinum building, shares our environmental values.”

Farella’s space at One Bush was selected as a result of firmwide input, was designed by IA Interior Architects, and was built out by Principal Builders. It includes amenities such as a wellness room, a nursing room for lactation privacy, a social café, and numerous collaboration areas. The space’s aesthetic is an homage to Northern California, with the design influenced by the colors and topography of the Bay Area.

“Farella’s attorneys are perpetually in motion – some at trial, some out with clients, some in the office, and some working from home. What we recognized is that defined personal space is less important than flexible space,” said Phyllis Medler, Farella’s Director of Facilities and Business Services. “The layout of One Bush is designed to invite collaboration and to ensure the office environment feels vital and engaging. The plan is to make our new space a hub of interaction.”
