Who’s in Your Village? Your Support System is Deeper Than You Think

October 5, 2023 at 11:00am12:00pm

Ashley Breakfield, Kyle McLorg and Dave Bruns spoke at Farella's 2023 Annual Client MCLE Day on the session "Who’s in Your Village? Your Support System is Deeper Than You Think."

Description:

Competence issues affect us all, but in greater numbers within the legal industry. According to research by the Hazeldon Betty Ford Clinic, 36% of lawyers struggle with alcohol abuse and more than 50% of lawyers report their alcohol consumption problems began in law school. In this inspiring conversation, Jerome Braun and Dave Bruns will discuss their different perspectives and experiences regarding substance abuse.  One perspective demonstrates the path a legal luminary took from a doctor’s intervention to an unwelcome visit from the county sheriff through the importance of a community of supportive lawyers that finally helped him break free. The other perspective outlines a kid seeking advice from his peers to stop a parent destroying their life through abusing alcohol. We hope you join the intensive discussion and identify peers and resources available to you as you manage personal, familial and professional relationships to alcohol and illegal substances.
