Zimbabwe Refugee Asylum
Through the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, we represented a musician from Zimbabwe who had been deemed an "enemy of the state" by the vicious Mugabe regime for speaking out against the government. The case involved some tricky legal issues because our client had applied for asylum more than a year after his arrival in the United States, which is a statutory bar unless the court can be convinced that an exception applies. We were able to convince the court that our client not only qualifies for an exception to the one-year bar, but that he qualifies for asylum in the United States. (Pro bono)
