Farella Names New White Collar Defense & Internal Corporate Investigations Practice Co-Chairs

June 29, 2020 Announcement

SAN FRANCISCO, June 29, 2020: Northern California legal powerhouse Farella Braun + Martel announces that Senior Associates Aviva J. Gilbert and Janice W. Reicher have been appointed co-chairs of its White Collar Defense and Internal Corporate Investigations Group.

“In our tradition of tapping up-and-coming talent to lead, we are delighted that Aviva and Janice will co-chair our White Collar Defense and Internal Corporate Investigations Group,” said Farella Managing Partner Brian Donnelly. “They are excellent lawyers with impressive track records of strong leadership inside and outside the firm. Janice and Aviva have complementary skill sets and experience, and I have confidence in their abilities to take the practice group to the next level.”

In Aviva’s representations of individuals and companies in civil enforcement, investigation, and criminal justice matters, she shepherds witnesses and defendants through all stages of government inquiries and proceedings. She also has broad experience with internal investigations into compliance, regulatory, and financial issues. Her work involves high-profile technology, healthcare and biotech companies, financial services entities, and public organizations. Aviva has significant experience as “pool counsel,” working with groups of employees in the internal investigation stage and then representing them in follow-on government inquiries and proceedings. She has also handled a number of cases dealing with cybersecurity and associated compliance issues, and has jury trial experience. At Farella, Aviva is co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Committee. Outside the firm, she serves as global chair of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association’s Young Professionals Committee. In 2019, she was a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Pathfinder, and is now the Bay Area City Lead. She earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School, an M.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Education, and her A.B. from Harvard University.

Janice divides her practice between white collar defense and complex business litigation. In her criminal practice, she represents individuals and entities in both criminal matters and parallel civil matters. She has particular experience defending U.S. citizens and foreign nationals accused of criminal trade secret theft. Janice regularly handles internal and government investigations in areas such as antitrust and securities. In her business litigation practice, Janice litigates cases involving complex contractual disputes, allegations of fraud, unfair competition, and breach of fiduciary duty. Janice serves as chair of the ABA’s White Collar Crime Young Lawyer’s Subcommittee (Northern California) and is a Young Lawyer representative of the ABA Women in White Collar Crime Committee. She is a member of the board of directors for the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California. Janice earned her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law and her B.A. from Yale University.
