Julie Treppa develops tax planning strategies for corporations, nonprofits, partnerships and joint ventures. She assists clients with a range of tax matters, including transaction planning, equity incentive programs, and deferred compensation matters under Code Section 409A. She has significant experience advising clients on the formation and operation of private equity investment and joint venture capital funds.

Among the leading tax practitioners in the area of New Markets Tax Credits, Ms. Treppa counsels investors, businesses, and community-based organizations seeking to use tax incentives and tax credits to maximize profits while achieving social, financial and environmental goals.

Ms. Treppa represents clients in federal and state tax controversies in addition to handling the administrative resolution of these matters. Prior to her legal career, she worked as a tax auditor for the IRS in the exam division.

Ms. Treppa regularly speaks on New Markets Tax Credits and is a member of the New Markets Tax Credit Working Group, an organization that provides a platform for industry participants to work together to resolve technical regulatory and administrative issues with the New Markets Tax Assistance Program. She is a former vice chair of the executive committee of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of California. In 2016, she was selected to present a paper on New Markets Tax Credits to key government officials from the IRS, Treasury Department, the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Joint Committee on Taxation as part of the Tax Section’s Washington D.C. delegation.

Ms. Treppa is a former officer of San Francisco Area Women Tax Lawyers. She is a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
