Erik Olson spoke to Silicon Valley Business Journal for the article "Legal experts say Google, Twitter and other tech companies dodged a bullet at the Supreme Court." The Supreme Court avoided taking a stand on Section 230 or putting in place broad rules for online speech.
"Business can be continued as usual," said Erik in the article. "The law has not been upended, and there's not an exception for targeting recommendations."
The Google case (Gonzalez v. Google LLC) means that YouTube can continue to use algorithms that curate and promote content. Eliminating that ability would have made the experience of using the site markedly worse, he said. And that decision could have been extended to things like search engines that also could promote objectionable information.
