Daily Journal Names Jessica Nall and Katherine Philippakis Among Top Women Lawyers

May 24, 2017 Announcement

SAN FRANCISCO/ST. HELENA, May 24, 2017 – Farella Braun + Martel LLP is proud to announce the selection of partners Jessica Nall and Katherine Philippakis to the Daily Journal’s 2017 list of  California’s Top Women Lawyers. The annual list recognizes the achievements of 102 leading women lawyers statewide.

Nall is a powerful advocate for her clients – who are often able to avoid criminal and regulatory penalties due in part to her legal prowess. In the course of her career, Nall has developed a highly effective practice as lead investigator in internal corporate investigations covering a variety of issues in a broad range of contexts and industries. Nall has also racked up significant successes representing prominent senior-level executives and companies facing high-stakes internal investigations, SEC investigations and enforcement actions, and Department of Justice criminal investigations. She is presently defending executives and employees in investigations into alleged conduct at some of the world’s most well-known companies, including Yahoo!, Hitachi, and Theranos. She recently represented one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges in a cutting-edge crypto currency litigation in federal court in the Northern District. Nall serves as the chair of Farella’s White Collar Crime and Internal Corporate Investigations practice.

Philippakis serves as real estate, corporate and land use counsel to some of California’s most exclusive wineries. Based in Farella’s Napa Valley office, she is a highly sought-after deal lawyer for the acquisition and disposition of luxury winery and vineyard properties, as well as assisting wine industry companies with the development of their properties and the operation of their businesses. She recently served as lead counsel on the acquisition of the 400+ acre Mt. Veeder estate of the late Robin Williams, on behalf of the Tesseron family, one of France’s foremost Bordeaux vintners and owner of the famous Chateau Pontet-Canet. She also recently advised The Wonderful Company on land use and diligence matters relating to their acquisition of Sonoma’s historic Hop Kiln Winery. In addition to her wine industry practice, she maintains a general land use and real estate practice, advising clients on renewable energy, hospitality and luxury residential projects. Philippakis serves as the chair of Farella’s Wine Industry Practice. This is the fourth time she has been named to the Top Women Lawyers list.
