Farella Braun + Martel Accepting Diversity Scholarship Program Applications

February 13, 2023 Announcement

23-Year Program Provides Financial Assistance to Diverse Bay Area 1L Law Students

Northern California legal powerhouse Farella Braun + Martel is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications now through March 2 for its “2023 Diversity Scholarship Program,” a firm Diversity, Equity, Inclusion + Belonging Committee initiative awarding a total of $45,000 in scholarship grants to be divided equally among three first-year law students attending select Bay Area law schools.

The Diversity Scholarship Program is now entering its 23rd year and has awarded more than $590,000 in scholarships to 89 first-year law students in the Bay Area. The program is open to law students who self-identify as a member of a historically underrepresented community, including those identifying as BIPOC, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, disabled, and/or with a background or experience that would otherwise contribute to the diversity of the legal profession. Scholarship recipients are chosen based on a combination of merit and financial need, and preference is given to applicants who demonstrate a commitment to working and living in the Bay Area.

“We are very proud of our Diversity Scholarship Program – an initiative that moves words and intentions into tangible actions that make a difference both in historically underrepresented communities and in the legal profession,” said Farella Partner and Chief Talent and Inclusion Officer Sarah Good. “Getting to know our amazing recipients over the years and watching their legal careers blossom has confirmed that we can make a real impact. We’ve even been fortunate enough to have some of these folks choose Farella for their legal career path.”

For example, Farella partner Sushila Chanana is a former recipient of this scholarship.

As part of the application process, we recommend that applicants attend our 2023 Diversity Scholarship Program Mixer at Farella’s San Francisco office on February 15, where applicants can meet and connect with Farella lawyers.

Farella partner Brent Saldaña and senior associate Carolina de Armas co-chair the program.
