Biography

MaryJo Lopez-Oneal is a litigation associate at Farella Braun + Martel with a focus on business litigation and wine industry matters. 

MaryJo has worked on contract disputes, patent and trademark litigation, and commercial real estate development cases at all stages of litigation. Her experience includes trying cases in federal court and arbitration.  She was recently part of the trial team in a federal jury trial involving breach of contract, employment, and fraud claims.  MaryJo excels at briefing and arguing complex legal issues—such as federal preemption concepts, anti-SLAPP motions, and privilege issues—in an accessible and persuasive manner to obtain the best possible result for her clients.

MaryJo is passionate about the wine industry and has prioritized acquiring the knowledge and experience to understand her wine industry clients’ priorities and realities and best enable her to advise them.  She has arbitrated cases affecting the wine industry and has advised wine industry clients on a variety of matters.  She completed a harvest internship at a winery in Napa in 2020, has a certificate in wine education and management, and takes every opportunity available to learn more about wine and the wine industry.

MaryJo served as a clerk to Judge Haywood S. Gilliam, Jr. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
