Company/Organization: Chevron Corporation
Current Title: Senior Counsel, Litigation
Years at Farella: 2006 – 2012

What is your fondest memory of your time at Farella?

The genuine camaraderie among associates.

How did Farella help you get to where you are today?

The training and experience at Farella made me a better lawyer. The emphasis Farella puts on writing, critical analysis, and hands-in experience are skills that I continue to leverage everyday.

What do you like most about what you do in your current job?

As a litigator, I love being able to work on some of the largest, sophisticated and complex disputes in our company. Every case is a new challenge in a different part of the world.

What is your proudest accomplishment to date?

“Winning” a recent high-profile arbitration which culminated in 3 years of hard work and many miles aboard an airplane!

What is the most valuable lesson you learned while at Farella? How has this lesson impacted you post-Farella?

Being a good lawyer means listening and “right-sizing” your work to fit the need. Arrive at the “right” analysis is half the battle, communicating your analysis/opinion to colleagues or clients in a concise and clear manner is more valuable. Communication is the central part of my current job. I am constantly briefing high-level executives who require short synthesized information vs. long legal memo’s.

What piece of advice would you give to [attorneys] starting their legal career?

Step out of your comfort zone and look for opportunities to learn. Seek out assignments and expand your skill sets. Farella provides hands-on opportunities for junior lawyer and you should take advantage of it!

What is your favorite hobby and how did you get into it?

Playing golf – when I have free time!
