Kelly Matayoshi Recognized With 2021 Outstanding Barristers Award
Farella Braun + Martel is proud to announce that partner Kelly Matayoshi was recognized with a 2021 Outstanding Barristers Award by the Barristers Club at the Bar Association of San Francisco's (BASF) Annual Membership Luncheon.
BASF's press release described Kelly's contributions:
As president of the Barristers Club in 2020, Kelly Matayoshi gracefully met the challenges BASF faced by organizing more than a dozen COVID-19-related programs, covering subjects including everything from MCLE programs about substantive novel legal issues to cooking classes, bringing the community together throughout the pandemic. She led the Barristers' fight against racial injustice, creating a series of 10 programs in five months featuring leaders in the San Francisco Police Department and local criminal justice community to educate not only the legal community but also the public on topics like 'Know Your Rights' training and qualified immunity.
She facilitated the partnership with the Minority Bar Coalition, which led to the creation of the diversity task force, culminating in the first-ever diversity conference being held in 2020. Hearing the needs of her fellow Barristers, she helped foster a leadership development series as well as a judges panel, illuminating the path forward for young attorneys.
In November, Kelly received a Minority Bar Coalition Unity Award from the Barristers Club.
At Farella, Kelly represents a broad range of local and international companies with complex contract disputes, products liability claims, and subrogation defense. She has extensive experience defending clients in the consumer products space. She also represents employers on a range of causes of action, including wrongful termination and class action wage and hour disputes. She is the immediate past president of both the Barristers Club of the Bar Association of San Francisco and the UC Hastings Board of Governors. She serves on the advisory board for the UC Hastings Center for Litigation and Courts and on the board of directors of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area. She is the former co-chair of the ABA Section of Litigation’s Labor & Employment Committee. Kelly received her J.D., magna cum laude, from UC Hastings Law in 2012.
